CURRICULUM

In Philippines, they have the different teaching plan between Government School and Private School. The teaching plan provides details learning resources, varied learning activities, and also learning assessments. I have observed that the procedure of the lessons here are student-centered, with their assessments are the performance-based that assessed by their work (such as from the worksheets) and rubrics. Of course the teacher must shows the rubrics to the students when the teacher want to give the assignment. It will influence the willing of the students to finish the assignment. My supervisor said that, especially in English education, the students must understand the rubric. That’s why, when I give them the assignment, I must show the rubric first. If not, they will ask me to show the rubric.

A.    Preparation Good morning, everyone ! How are you today ? Are you ready to study ? 1.      Review Okay, before we begin our lesson today. Let me ask you about our lesson yesterday. What have we learn from the last lesson ? Good! What is the meaning of asking and giving directions? Very good ! 2.      Motivation Okay, I will invite you to have fun together. Okay I will check your consentration. The clue you have to do the opposite. If I say to the right you have to go left. If I say to the left you have to go right. If I say forward, you must back off. And if I say back off, you must go forward.Understand? Everybody stand up, please! Right Left Forward Back off B.     Presentation Now we’re going to our new lesson. Today,we will learn about expressing opinion and feelings. C.    Development of the lesson What is the meaning of expressing opinion and feelings ? Excellent! Let’s say together What is opinion? Expressing an opinion Sentences that express opinions or points of view are statements or declarative sentences. Some specific word or phrases that introduce opinion include: I think... In my opinion ... Perhaps... I believe... Maybe... Probably....  For example; (In my opinion, I think that government schools are better than private schools since education provided in government schools and their environment enable them to acquire skills which make the students become self-reliance). Giving opinions usually enable people to make choices in their decision making, for example, to choose a type of school to go, types of subjects to study and other things which they like depending on their selections. In school, opinions are expressed during debates conducts.   For example, 1.       The English language is better than the Swahili language Science subjects are difficult than arts subjects. Urban life is better than rural life. Ways that can be used to ask for expressing opinion in the English language 1.      Asking for Opinion For example: a.      What is your opinion on Corporal punishment?                     b.      What do you think about school rules?   2.      Expressing an Opinion For example,                 a.   I think that smoking is harmless                 b.   I believe that punishment should be allowed 3.      Supporting the Opinion For example,                 a.   I support the argument that punishment should be allowed because it helps to shape student’s behavior.                 b.   I agree with the view that the punishment should be banned. 4.      Opposing the Opinion For example                 a.   I disagree with the view that smoking can kill                 b.   I oppose the argument that smoking is harmful   B. Expressing Feelings  A feeling is a state of emotion rather than the thoughts or ideas, something you feel in the mind or sense. You may feel good or bad, happy or angry and other feelings. So feelings usually are influenced by either body emotions or physical emotions.   For example, 1.       I feel so angry I am so happy to pass my exams   So understanding better ways of expressing your feelings and opinions may enable a student to have better ways of communication so in order to have those ways as a student make sure that you practice those ways explained above in your daily conversation.   D.    Generalization 1.      What did you learn today ? 2.      Give an example of expressing opinion and feelings! Wow good ! E.     Application What is your opinion about statement “Money is everything”? Please explain your opinion minimum 3 sentences on a piece of paper. You can do it in 10 minutes!
